Mornings on safari typically begin early to catch wildlife during their most active period at first light. Walking safaris are especially enjoyable during the cooler morning hours before the temperature rises, and their duration can be adjusted to match the group’s preferences. A visit to a nearby Maasai community provides a unique glimpse into a distinct culture and lifestyle, offering a valuable experience that can replace a morning or afternoon game drive.
Morning game drives usually include a packed breakfast for a picnic in a scenic spot before returning to camp by late morning. In the late afternoon, another game drive sets out, often featuring a sundowner stop. For an alternative adventure, consider a night game drive to explore the nocturnal wildlife rarely seen during the day.
Following breakfast, prepare to pack your belongings as you get ready for your return flight to Nairobi. Upon arrival at Wilson Airport, your driver will be there to greet you and facilitate your transfer to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. The journey typically takes about an hour, though actual travel time may vary based on traffic conditions. Safari outings are the central focus at Olakira, occurring twice daily in the morning and afternoon. You can opt for a game drive with either a picnic breakfast or a sundowner kit, or embark on a full-day adventure with a picnic lunch, returning to camp in the mid-afternoon. The Serengeti boasts exceptional wildlife sightings, and the Great Migration elevates the experience with thrilling river crossings in the northern Serengeti and dynamic predator-prey interactions in the southern plains, especially during the new-born wildebeest and zebra season.
Take advantage of your travel day and opt for a more leisurely start with the chance to enjoy breakfast at the camp before heading to the airstrip for your flight to Seronera. Upon arrival at Seronera Airstrip, a guide from Dunia Camp will greet you and provide a brief introduction to the new area. Take a slow-paced game drive towards camp, leaving the bustling Seronera region behind as you journey west towards the Moru Kopjes and the tranquility of Dunia Camp.
After a satisfying lunch beneath the trees, take time to settle into camp and admire the views from your private veranda or the elevated lounge. As the afternoon heat wanes, gather for a cup of coffee or a refreshing drink before embarking on an afternoon game drive across the Serengeti plains. As the sun begins to set, find a picturesque spot to enjoy a cold drink while immersing yourself in the natural beauty around you. Upon returning to camp, freshen up before joining fireside drinks and indulging in a delightful dinner.
Game drives are the main attraction at Dunia Camp, departing twice daily in the morning and afternoon. These drives can include a picnic breakfast or a sundowner kit, or you can opt for a full-day adventure with a picnic lunch, returning to camp in the mid-afternoon. The Serengeti boasts an abundance of wildlife, and Dunia Camp’s strategic location offers access to the Great Migration herds throughout the year.
With a picnic lunch, a full-day game drive can cover the southern plains, parts of the western corridor, and much of the central regions, providing a diverse wildlife viewing experience. For an extra fee, you can also enjoy a hot air balloon safari, offering a unique and breathtaking perspective on wildlife observation.
After enjoying breakfast at the camp, proceed to Seronera Airstrip for your flight to Lake Manyara. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by a guide from The Highlands for your three-hour transfer up to the heights of Ngorongoro. Experience the picturesque journey as you traverse through the lively town of Karatu and enter the gates of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. The steep road winds up the outer slopes of the Ngorongoro Crater, surrounded by lush tropical jungle, until you reach the crater rim road offering a breathtaking viewpoint of the crater. Take this opportunity to stretch your legs, admire the view, and savour the picnic lunch from Dunia Camp that you’ve brought along.
Continuing your journey, follow the route anticlockwise around the crater rim, eventually veering away from the rim and entering the verdant rolling highlands of Ngorongoro. Along the way, observe goat herders and cheerful school children, circling the base of Ol Moti Crater until you reach its northern slopes and the inviting ambiance of The Highlands. After the long drive, unwind in camp and adjust to the altitude before indulging in a sumptuous dinner feast in the dining tent.
The day begins early as you aim to be among the first vehicles on the crater floor. Despite the cold and darkness when leaving camp, bundled in warm jackets and Maasai blankets, the chill quickly fades as you descend the inner walls of the Ngorongoro Crater. Once on the crater floor, take a moment for coffee and breakfast snacks, enhancing the unique game drive experience in this extraordinary location. Enjoy a picnic lunch by the hippo pool, where groups of grunting hippos provide company as you recharge. By mid-afternoon, commence the return journey up the caldera walls to the rim, then back to camp for refreshments at the bar before dinner.
