The Highlands Ngorongoro
The Highlands sits high on the slopes of Olmoti Crater in the Ngorongoro Crater Highlands, set out for privacy, with views that run all the way to the Serengeti. It is a low-impact camp built with real style.
The eight suites are canvas geodesic domes, shaped after the Maasai bomas found across these hills. Each has a fireplace for the cold highland evenings, a deck and dressing gowns. In the main dome an indoor fireplace stands in for the old East African campfire, and there is a library and a whisky dome for the end of the day.
Days go on the Ngorongoro Crater floor, on the climb up Olmoti along an old Maasai cattle trail, and down into Empakaai crater to its soda lake. Many of the staff come from the surrounding communities and take guests to visit a Maasai boma.

Made for privacy and rest, with a king-size bed, an en-suite bathroom with a double-headed shower and a wood-burning fireplace. There is a seating area, a large raised deck and an outdoor hot tub looking over the Ngorongoro landscape.

Things to do
Ngorongoro Crater descent
A day on the 300 km² crater floor with an experienced guide, with lunch in the shade of the trees. The seven-seater closed vehicles have power points and a fridge.
Olmoti climb
An old Maasai cattle trail through mountain forest, grassland and rocky outcrops, good for birds and butterflies, with a view down into the crater at the top.
Empakaai descent
Down into Empakaai crater with a Ngorongoro Conservation Area ranger, walking to the soda lake on the floor, known for its pink flamingos. The camp is close enough to do it as a half day.
Community and cultural visits
Visit a local community with a Maasai member of staff, see the cattle-herding life in a boma, and at some times of year a local school.
