Where to stay at Waterberg
Waterberg Plateau Park was proclaimed in 1972 as a sanctuary for rare and endangered species. It covers 405 km² about 60 km east of Otjiwarongo, with buffalo, roan, sable and tsessebe, and black and white rhino were introduced to build breeding populations.
Okonjima Nature Reserve covers 22,000 ha, including part of the Omboroko Mountains. It is the home of AfriCat, founded in 1991, which now researches mainly leopard, brown hyena and pangolin.
