Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp
Okonjima Luxury Bush Camp is set in the enclosed 2,000-hectare wilderness area of the Okonjima Nature Reserve, home of the AfriCat Foundation. The reserve is one of the best places in Namibia to see leopard, brown hyaena, rhino and pangolin and to learn about their conservation.
There are eight thatched chalets, each about 80 to 100 metres from the next, and a Junior Suite. The heart of the camp is a pod-shaped lapa under a camelthorn tree, with reception, a curio shop, a lounge with indoor and outdoor fireplaces, and a restaurant looking over the waterhole. A secluded pool is for Bush Camp guests only.
The days are spent with Okonjima's guides: tracking radio-collared leopard, following brown hyaena, walking after rhino with the anti-poaching team, and, in season, searching for pangolin at night.

The Rooms
Eight thatched chalets with glass windows on three sides and two queen-size beds. Each has a semi-detached sala with a Nespresso station, a mini bar, a safe, air-conditioning for summer and winter, and its own small waterhole for birds.
A 120 m² suite with two queen-size beds and an en-suite lounge, a fireplace and a bath for winter nights, and an outdoor shower for summer. It is wheelchair accessible.

Things to do
Leopard tracking
Out on the reserve with an experienced guide, who tracks the radio-collared leopard with a telemetry receiver and gathers data for the long-running leopard project.
Brown hyaena tracking
Time on the reserve with a focus on the shy and rarely seen brown hyaena.
Rhino tracking on foot
A trail on foot with your guide and the Okonjima anti-poaching team, who know each rhino on the reserve. No telemetry is used. This can only be booked at the lodge.
Pangolin tracking on foot
A silent walk in the dark with a guide and tracker or researcher, for at most six people. Sightings are not guaranteed. A torch and walking shoes are required.
Game and nature drive
A drive focused on the wildlife and plants of the reserve and the 30 years of conservation work on Okonjima, without telemetry.
Into AfriCat
An introduction to the research and conservation work of the AfriCat Foundation on the reserve.

When to go
Dry months, roughly June to October, bring the animals to the waterholes. November to April is the green season: lush scenery, great birding and fewer visitors. Tap or hover over a month for more.

Can we see leopard?
Some of the reserve's adult leopard wear radio collars, so the guides can track them and sightings are frequent. Leopard tracking is included in the fully inclusive rate. Sightings are never guaranteed.
What kinds of rooms are there?
Eight thatched chalets, each with two queen-size beds and a private sala, and one 120 m² Junior Suite with a fireplace, a bath and an outdoor shower.
Can children stay?
Children from 12 years old are welcome.
