When is the best time to travel?

Namibia is a year-round destination, but the dry season (May to October) is ideal for wildlife viewing, especially in Etosha National Park. The green season (November to April) offers dramatic landscapes and fewer travellers. Which suits you depends on what you are coming for — game concentrated at waterholes, or a desert that has briefly turned green. How do you travel between destinations?

Luxury safaris often include light aircraft flights between lodges, reducing long driving times and offering spectacular aerial views of areas like Sossusvlei and the Skeleton Coast. Others are driven, which suits travellers who want the road itself to be part of the trip. Both shapes are here: our fly-in safaris put you in the air between camps, while the 12-Day Self-Drive Luxury Circuit and the 14-Day Highlights Self-Drive keep you behind the wheel with the lodges booked around you. The 14-Day Drive & Fly Photographic Safari does both — road in the south, air in the remote north.

What type of accommodation can I expect?

You can expect boutique lodges and luxury camps with spacious suites, private decks, plunge pools, and stunning views — often located in exclusive concessions or private reserves. At the top of the range our ultra-luxury itineraries use properties like Zannier Omaanda, Onduli Ridge and Horizon by Ongava. Every itinerary lists its lodges by name, so you can see exactly where you would be sleeping before you enquire.

Is Namibia suitable for a luxury safari compared to other African destinations?

Absolutely. Namibia stands out for its vast open spaces, low visitor density, and unique desert landscapes, offering a more private and tranquil luxury experience compared to busier safari destinations. It also pairs well with its neighbours if you want more than one country — see combining Namibia with Victoria Falls.

Are luxury safaris suitable for families?

Yes, many lodges in Namibia welcome families and offer tailored activities for children, although some properties have age restrictions due to their remote and tranquil setting. Because those restrictions vary property by property, tell us the ages when you enquire and we will build the itinerary around lodges that will take your party rather than have you find out later.

What wildlife can I expect on a luxury safari?

Wildlife viewing is excellent, particularly in Etosha National Park, where you may see elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, and a variety of plains game, often from exclusive viewpoints or guided experiences. The private reserves along Etosha’s boundaries are the reason the luxury itineraries use them: on Horizon by Ongava you can drive after dark and leave the road, neither of which the national park permits.

We flew into Namibia with a group of ten men of mixed ages, all top performers in our sales division. The excitement was palpable as we embarked on what we proudly call the Kingsmen trip – a tradition of rewarding excellence with unforgettable experiences.

Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft Park – home to the towering red dunes of the Great Sand Sea.

🚙 The Experience
We travelled in 4x4 Land Cruisers with rooftop tents, alternating between wild camping and luxurious lodges. The terrain was dramatic and ever-changing – from vast desert plains to rocky outcrops and lush watering holes.
One of the highlights was a hot air balloon safari over the Namib Desert – a surreal and soul-stirring experience that left everyone speechless.

This trip wasn’t just about the sights – it was about the people. We cooked our own meals, shared stories around the campfire, and laughed over our driving antics. The bond between the team grew stronger each day, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

  A reliable and very helpful agency. For various reasons, adjustments were necessary, and they were always quick to find alternative solutions that, above all, met the needs expressed. I think it's especially challenging to meet the needs within the budgets provided, but Desert Track and Safari has always been quick and effective in providing proposals.
