Otjiwa Eagle's Rest
Otjiwa Eagle's Rest sits in the middle of Otjiwa, described as Namibia's oldest game farm, with 10,000 hectares of unspoilt bushveld off the B1 near Otjiwarongo.
Some 25 species of game roam free here, including herds of sable antelope and white rhino, and roan antelope are often seen. The dams draw a wealth of birds, the African fish eagle above all.
There are elegant rooms close to the main lodge, self-catering family chalets and private campsites. The restaurant serves gourmet dishes alongside home-style Namibian meat, and there is a pool, a bar and a spa and wellness centre.

The Rooms
Twenty-two rooms within easy walking distance of the main lodge, each with a queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, a tea and coffee station and satellite TV, and parking for one vehicle.
Seven houses in a warm African style with an open-plan kitchen and an outdoor fireplace. The main bedroom has a double bed, a mosquito net and air-conditioning; the second has two single beds and a ceiling fan.
Ten private campsites on clean river sand, each with its own washing area, water and fireplace, and a shared ablution block with hot water. All can be reached in a normal car.

Game drives
Drives on the reserve with a chance to see some 25 animal species, ending on one of Otjiwa's mountain tops.
Rhino tracking
A morning out with a guide to get close to the white rhino that roam the reserve.
Walking trails
Walks in the bush with an experienced field guide who shares what the land has taught his people.
Bird-watching
You are dropped at a lookout point with a snack basket and a radio, and a guide fetches you when you call.
Horse riding
Rides across the plains of Otjiwa with the reserve's guides.
Ombo village visit
A trip to the village, where a local guide explains the history and culture of the Herero people. Lunch is included.
Massages are offered in the spa and wellness centre or in your room. Ask us about prices when you book.

When to go
Dry months, roughly June to October, bring the animals to the waterholes. November to April is the green season: lush scenery, great birding and fewer visitors. Tap or hover over a month for more.
