Camp Kipwe
Camp Kipwe is a small camp in the Twyfelfontein area of Damaraland, built in and around a pile of granite boulders. The rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, Namibia's first UNESCO World Heritage Site, are close by, and the camp runs its own outings to see them.
Nine round bungalows of stone and rock sit among the boulders, each with an open-air bathroom tucked between the rocks, air-conditioning and a veranda facing the dry riverbed and the sunset. For more space there is the thatched Kipwe Suite, and two Luxury Suites up on the kopje with their own deck and heated splash pool.
Mornings start early with a nature drive through the desert in search of desert-adapted elephants. Afternoons are for the rock art, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes, and the day ends with sundowners up on the rocks.

The Rooms
Nine round bungalows of stone and rock, each with twin beds, air-conditioning, a minibar, an open-air bathroom set between the boulders and a private veranda looking over the dry riverbed.
The thatched Kipwe Suite has a lounge with air-conditioning and satellite TV, a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom, a minibar and laundry service.
Two Luxury Suites sit up on the kopje, facing east or west. Each has a lounge, a bedroom and an en-suite bathroom opening onto a large deck with a heated splash pool, a sala and loungers.

A guided morning drive through the desert, looking at the plants and animals that cope with the heat and drought, and with luck the desert-adapted elephants. Drinks and snacks are included.

When to go
June to October is the dry season and the best time for desert-adapted elephants and rhino around the waterholes. Most rain falls from January to April. Tap or hover over a month for more.
