Desert Quiver Camp
Desert Quiver Camp lies on the road to Sossusvlei, about 5 km from the Sesriem entrance gate to the Namib-Naukluft Park. The setting is open plains and granite outcrops, with mountains on the skyline and wildlife moving through.
It is a self-catering camp of 24 units built low to suit the land around them. Each has a twin bedroom with its own bathroom, and a shaded patio with a kitchenette, a barbecue and a wooden bench, so you cook and eat outside as the light goes. Boxes of utensils are handed out at reception, and fresh food can be ordered each day.
There is a pool, a bar and a communal dining area at the camp. If you would rather not cook, the restaurant at Sossusvlei Lodge is about five minutes down the road towards the park gate, and the Sossusvlei Lodge Adventure Centre runs the guided trips into the dunes, the canyon walks and the flights.

A twin bedroom with a fold-out sleeper couch, a safe, shelves and hanging space, and an en-suite shower. Outside, the shaded patio has a kitchenette with a two-plate hob and under-counter fridge, a barbecue and a wooden bench. Two children under 12 can sleep on the couch free of charge when sharing with two full-paying adults.

Things to do
Sossusvlei and Deadvlei excursion
Into the park at sunrise in an all-terrain vehicle with a guide, stopping at Dune 45 on the drive of about 60 km down the dune corridor. A walk of about 2.6 km there and back leads to Deadvlei, and the fit can climb Big Daddy.
Elim Dune nature walk
A guided walk on the Elim Dune belt, looking at the small things: tracks from the night, plants and the smaller animals.
Sesriem Canyon
A visit to the canyon carved by the Tsauchab River, with a guide who tells its story.
Sundowner drive
A slow drive on the private reserve of Sossusvlei Lodge to a viewpoint, with drinks as the sun sets.
Scenic flights
Flights with Desert Air in a six-seater Cessna 210 over Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, with longer routes over the coast on request.
Hot air ballooning
A balloon flight of about an hour over the dunes at sunrise with Namib Sky, ending with a champagne breakfast where you land. You drive yourself to the balloon base before dawn.
All excursions are at extra cost and most leave from the Adventure Centre at Sossusvlei Lodge, about five minutes away. Ask us about prices when you book.

When to go
March to May are the top months, with milder days. June to September is dry and clear with cold nights. October to February is hot, so go to the dunes at sunrise. Tap or hover over a month for more.
