Onguma The Fort
Onguma The Fort stands like a mirage on the Onguma Nature Reserve, a private reserve of 35,480 hectares on the eastern side of Etosha National Park. Built with heavy stone walls, a tall tower and old carved doors and windows, it mixes African, Moroccan and Indian touches and looks out over a waterhole and Fisher's Pan.
Eleven Bush Suites sit on either side of the main fort, each about 50 metres from the next, with indoor and outdoor showers, a fireplace, air-conditioning and a deck facing the pan. The Sultan Suite is inside the main tower, and there is a single Honeymoon Suite with an outdoor bath.
Days are for game drives into Etosha and across the Onguma reserve, guided walks and quiet hours in the Onkolo hide at water level, and the evenings start with the sun going down over the pan.

Eleven private Bush Suites, each about 50 metres from the next, with air-conditioning, a fireplace, a bar fridge, a bathroom with an indoor and an outdoor shower, and a wooden deck with loungers looking out over the pan.
The only suite inside the main tower, with a large bedroom that opens into a lounge with satellite TV and onto a small private viewing deck, and a bathroom with an open shower and a bath.
A single Honeymoon Suite with a fireplace, indoor and outdoor showers and an outdoor bath.

Etosha game drive
A guided drive into Etosha National Park.
Onguma sunrise or sundowner drive
A drive on the Onguma reserve, home to plains game and more than 300 bird species, with lion and cheetah often seen.
Interpretive nature walk
An early walk through the bush with an armed ranger.
Onkolo hide
A water-level hide on the reserve, popular with photographers, with a small bathroom nearby.
Dream Cruiser sleep-out
A night out on the reserve on a custom-built Land Cruiser, with a bathroom below and a bedroom and lounge on the upper deck. A picnic dinner is brought to you, and you are collected for breakfast.

When to go
Dry months, roughly June to October, bring the animals to the waterholes. November to April is the green season: lush scenery, great birding and fewer visitors. Tap or hover over a month for more.

Where is Onguma The Fort?
On the Onguma Nature Reserve, a private reserve on the eastern side of Etosha National Park, overlooking a waterhole and Fisher's Pan.
What is the Dream Cruiser?
A sleep-out on a custom-built Land Cruiser out on the reserve, with a bathroom below and a bedroom and lounge on the upper deck. A picnic dinner is brought out to you, a ranger is on radio call, and you are collected for breakfast at the lodge. It takes a maximum of two guests.
Can children stay at The Fort?
Yes. Children aged 7 to 11 stay at child rates. The interpretive nature walk has a minimum age of 16 and the Onkolo hide a minimum age of 7.
What meal plans are available?
You can stay on dinner, bed and breakfast, or all-inclusive.
When is the best time to visit?
Game viewing at the waterholes is at its best in the dry months, roughly June to October. November to April is the green season, with lush scenery and great birding.
