andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge
andBeyond Sossusvlei Desert Lodge is a small luxury lodge built into the foot of a mountain on its own private reserve near Sossusvlei. The stone and glass suites are spread out along the slope, each with an uninterrupted view across the plains to the dunes.
Every suite has its own plunge pool, a living room with a fireplace, and a skylight above the bed that opens so you can fall asleep under the stars. The suites run on their own solar power, which also cools the rooms and recycles the water.
Days start with an early drive to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei, or with a walk, e-bike ride or quad bike outing on the reserve. In the evening there is stargazing in the lodge's observatory, as the area borders Africa's first International Dark Sky Reserve.

The Rooms
Ten glass-fronted stone suites, each with air-conditioning, a living room with a fireplace, a bedroom with a skylight that opens above the bed, a bathroom with a glass-walled rain shower facing the desert, a private veranda and a plunge pool.
Two suites joined by a covered walkway, with a shared private lounge and dining area. It suits families or friends travelling together, and the team can arrange activities for children.

Sossusvlei and Deadvlei
A guided trip into the Namib-Naukluft Park to walk to Deadvlei and climb a dune, or the towering Big Daddy if you are fit.
Desert drives
Drives through four different habitats on the reserve, learning about fairy circles and how desert animals survive, continuing after dark.
Living dunes
A specialist guide shows you the small creatures of the dunes, from dancing white lady spiders to golden moles.
Stargazing
An astronomer guides you around the night sky through the lodge's telescope in its own observatory.
E-biking and hiking
Marked hiking trails of 2.2 km and 3.4 km, and e-bike routes of 11 km and 19 km on the reserve.
Scenic flights and ballooning
Helicopter flights over the dunes and down to the coast, or a hot-air balloon flight near the lodge.

When to go
March to May are the top months, with milder days. June to September is dry and clear with cold nights. October to February is hot, so go to the dunes at sunrise. Tap or hover over a month for more.

Does every suite have a pool?
Yes. Each Desert Suite has its own plunge pool on the veranda, and the Star Dune Suite has plunge pools too.
Can I see the stars from bed?
Yes. Each bedroom has a skylight above the bed that opens, and the lodge has an observatory with a telescope for guided stargazing.
How do we get to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei?
The lodge runs a guided half-day excursion into the Namib-Naukluft Park in the morning, when the light and temperatures are best.
Is it suitable for families?
Yes. Children are welcome, the Star Dune Suite has two bedrooms, and andBeyond runs a children's programme with activities for young guests.
What is included?
Meals, drinks and most guided activities are included. Ballooning, helicopter flights, spa treatments and a private vehicle cost extra.
