Le Mirage Resort & Spa
Le Mirage looks like a desert castle rising from the plains, built from dark local stone with towers, arches and courtyards. It stands about 21 km from Sesriem, the gate to the Namib-Naukluft Park, so the dunes of Sossusvlei are an easy early-morning drive away.
There are 27 rooms in two buildings. The Camelthorn Rooms are in the main building near reception, and the Oasis Rooms are in the larger castle-like building, each with a balcony over the desert. Inside, the stone walls are softened with white linen, mosquito nets and open-plan bathrooms.
Evenings start with a drink around the fire pit, followed by a candlelit five-course dinner. There is a spa with massages and beauty treatments, a jacuzzi and a sheltered pool in a green garden courtyard, and quad bike tours, nature drives and balloon flights from the door.

The Rooms
Eight rooms in the main building, close to reception and named after the big camel thorn tree nearby. Each has an en-suite bathroom, air-conditioning, a mosquito net, a safe, a minibar and tea and coffee.
Nineteen rooms in the castle-like Oasis Building, each with a balcony looking over the Namib plains. The building also houses the pool and the spa. Rooms have air-conditioning, a mosquito net, a safe and a minibar.

Things to do
Sossusvlei excursion
A guided drive into the park to climb the high dunes and walk to Deadvlei. Private drives can be arranged.
Quad bike tours
Guided rides through the dunes with views over the Tsaris Mountains. Riders must be 12 or older.
Hot-air ballooning
An early flight over the desert, weather permitting, finished with a champagne breakfast.
Nature drive
A drive on the private reserve around the resort to look for springbok, oryx and the desert landscape.
Spa treatments
Massages, foot treatments and beauty therapies in the wellness centre, with a jacuzzi in the garden.
Activities and spa treatments are booked and paid for at the resort. Ask us to reserve them with your stay.

When to go
March to May are the top months, with milder days. June to September is dry and clear with cold nights. October to February is hot, so go to the dunes at sunrise. Tap or hover over a month for more.
