The Sleep-Out
Skybeds Botswana
Skybeds is a night out under the African sky, set deep in the Khwai Private Reserve in the Okavango Delta. It is not a lodge in the usual sense but a sleep-out, which puts you right in the middle of the bush for the night.
There are three Skybeds, each a raised platform of three storeys looking over a busy waterhole. On the ground floor is a private bathroom with a flushing toilet and a shower, above it a dressing area, and at the very top a large double bed with white linen and a mosquito net, open to the night sky.
From bed you may watch elephant, lion, hyena, wild dog and other animals come down to the water below. By day there are game drives, two underground hides at waterholes and, in season, guided walks. Meals are shared, and lighting is by oil lamp.

Game drives
Drives in comfortable open game-viewing vehicles with a safari guide who knows where to look for the wildlife of the Khwai reserve.
Underground hides
Two sunken hides, each at a busy waterhole, with comfortable chairs for close, eye-to-eye views of the animals that come to drink.
Guided walks
Walks in the bush with your guide, looking at the smaller creatures, trees, grasses and birds, and learning to read tracks.
Sleeping out
The night itself is the main event: a bed at the top of the platform, with the waterhole below and the night sky above.
Birding
Bird watching on drives, on walks and from the platforms.
