The Lodge
Khowarib Lodge
Khowarib Lodge stands on the banks of the Hoanib River in the Khowarib Gorge, in the north-west of Namibia. Its canvas chalets stand on stilts at the edge of the riverbank, looking across the dry riverbed to the cliffs on the other side.
There are fourteen chalets, each with its own bathroom and a viewing platform at the front, shaded by mopane trees. There are double, twin and family chalets, a pool on the lawn below the cliffs, and a fire in the boma in the evenings.
The lodge sits on the fringe of the Kaokoveld, so it is a good place to start exploring the remote north-west, either on your own or on one of the lodge's guided tours. The guides are local Damara people with many years of experience in the area.
